Quilted Halloween Placemats

Latest project was a pair of quilted Halloween placemats. They were very quick and easy, only took me about an hour. You should sew one, I will show you how.....

First, choose your fabric. I choose a Halloween fabric for the top and a quilted black fabric for the back.

Cut out the top fabric to the desired size. I used an existing placemat as a pattern (just cut 1/2 inch bigger on all sides for a seam allowance).

Now place the top fabric upside down on to the right side of the back fabric and pin.

Cut the back fabric using the top fabric as the pattern. Leave the pins in.

Now sew around the outside remembering to leave a hole for turning.

After you have sewn around your placemat turn it right side out and iron flat.

Almost there, now top stitch around the whole outside edge, this will close up the hole you left for turning. I used a 1/8 inch seam allowance.

Now quilt stitch straight lines down the length of the placemat. The distance is up to you usually 1 or 2 inch spacing. I used my quilting guild to keep seams straight and evenly spaced.

That’s it you’re done, now wasn’t that easy?

 Enjoy!!!
